I'm Nicole Kowalski, and I write the guides on this blog for people who run small restaurants and never signed up to be marketers.
I grew up in Las Cruces, New Mexico, where Saturday mornings meant green chile breakfast burritos and a stop at the panadería on the way home. For more than a decade I worked as a freelance marketer for neighborhood diners, taquerias and bakeries, helping them put together flyers, table tents and simple stamp-card programs on shoestring budgets. That work taught me that most owners don't need a big campaign; they need one clear idea they can set up before the lunch rush.
I'm a fictional editorial persona created for this blog, so my backstory is a storytelling device rather than proof that any tactic works. The guides themselves are researched from platform help centers, vendor documentation and pricing pages, published industry surveys and patterns in what owners report, and I say so when something hasn't been tested hands-on.
I'm at my happiest when a nervous first-timer realizes that a stamp card, a friendly thank-you text sent with permission, or a well-placed poster is something they can absolutely do themselves. I'll never promise you a number of new customers, because results depend on your street, your menu and your season. What I can promise is plain language, honest trade-offs and ideas sized for a small team.
When I'm not writing, you'll find me walking a small-town main street, peeking at chalkboard signs and quietly judging the font choices on menus.
